Since its founding in 1900, the OAV – functioning in its capacity as a business association for the Asia-Pacific region – has performed pioneering work for the Asia-Germany bilateral economic relationship. Starting out as an initiative and lobbying platform for North German trading firms, the OAV has continually adapted to the structures and demands of Germany's Asian economy and today represents the needs of industry, services and trade across Germany.
OAV respects its historical roots and adapts them to contemporary conditions. This also applies to the annual Ostasiatisches Liebesmahl which, involving high-ranking guests and speakers from Asia and Germany, is still widely considered the principal networking event for German business in Asia.
Professor Bernd Eberstein's chronicle, written to commemorate the OAV's 100th anniversary, illuminates more than just the history of Germany's leading trade association with Asia.
