The delegation of the German economy in Sri Lanka is a cooperation partner. The delegation of the German economy in Sri Lanka is a cooperation partner. The BMO Programme is funded through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and coordinated by sequa gGmbH.
The primary goal of German development cooperation with Sri Lanka is political stabilization of the country and the promotion of a national reconciliation process after decades of ethnic tensions and violence. Regional inequalities still strongly characterize Sri Lanka's economic growth, with much of the GDP still produced in and around Colombo. There are several micro-enterprises that make up the majority of all registered private enterprises in the country. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are primarily located in the manufacturing sector and in particular, in the food production and processing, rubber processing and textile industries.
The Chambers and Associations Partnership Programme (KVP) pursues the aim of developing the economic framework for SMEs in northern Sri Lanka. To this end, the goal is to serve the needs of CCIY members sustainably and competently and to represent their business interests.
The CCIY is a Jaffna-based Chamber of Industry and Commerce which by supporting its members in the Northern Province, contributes to sustainably shaping economic development in the former war zone, thereby also reducing regional inequalities. Established in 1999 and with over 150 members, the Chamber will decisively shape growth in the region and draw foreign investors. Among other things, the tourism industry, the agricultura lsector and the fishing industry are very promising industries.
