Zoom In! – Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks
We look forward to welcoming you to the 11th session of our series "Zoom In! – Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks" on Energy Policy under New Leadership in Germany and Japan, taking place on 27. January 2026.
“Zoom In! – Japanese-German Energy Transition Talks” is a series organized by the Japanese-German Energy Partnership Team on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). It focuses on current developments regarding the energy transition in both countries. Each session zooms in on a specific topic and offers decision-makers from policy, industry and research a platform for in-depth information and discussion on the current status, development and potential for different energy transition policies and technologies in Germany and Japan.
In light of recent political transitions in Germany and Japan – with Chancellor Friedrich Merz's new coalition government following the February 2025 federal election, and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi taking office in October 2025 – this session will explore how these new administrations are shaping energy and climate policy. Both governments have reaffirmed their commitments to climate neutrality, yet both have also signalled notable policy shifts. Bringing together leading experts from both countries, the webinar will examine these evolving priorities and what they mean for the future of the energy transition in Germany and Japan, as well as their implications for bilateral cooperation.
