Russia's War in Ukraine: Economic and Political Impacts on Asia-Pacific

07. März 2022, Online

Russia’s full scale military invasion on Ukraine abruptly ended the European peace order as we have known it for more than 30 years. The German Government has reacted with a fundamental revision and major shifts of some decades-old principles. Yesterday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with the support of 141 out of 193 countries.

As we all are following the developments in disbelief, analysts and academics try to comprehend the global consequences and implications of this historical turning point. Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Russia’s growing isolation on the international stage and imposed sanctions also have profound consequences on its Asian neighbours and the entire Indo-Pacific region.

We kindly invite you to a first inventory in which we and our expert speakers will look at the perceptions of and impacts on the Asia-Pacific region. Our online event “Russia’s war in Ukraine: Economic and political impacts on Asia-Pacific" will take place on Monday, 7 March 2022 from 09.00 am to 10.00 am (CET).

We understand that an exhaustive analysis is yet difficult and heavily depending on daily developments including currently imposed sanctions. Nevertheless, we deem it necessary to cover these events timely also from our regional perspectives and offer you an opportunity to raise questions and discuss the implications on your business.

Our speakers will provide impulse statements from their respective specialised fields. Subsequently there is room for your questions and further discussions. Our speakers will be:

Prof. Dr. Amrita Narlikar, President of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), Hamburg, Honorary Fellow of Darwin College (University of Cambridge), and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Observer Researcher Foundation
Mr. Michael Spencer, Managing Director - Head of Research, Asia Pacific & Chief Economist, Asia Pacific, Deutsche Bank Hong Kong
