Round Table "The End of Free Trade as We Know it?"

23. March 2017, Hamburg

With the new Trump administration in power, the future of global trade seems uncertain. A number of questions arise in this context: What does this uncertainty mean for the EU´s trade policy? Is bilateralism on the rise and will the WTO be sidelined? What will be the implications of Britain´s decision to leave the European Union? Will Asia emerge as the starting point of new free trade initiatives?

We cordially invite you to discuss the current situation and perspectives of free trade at our round table event with the following renowned experts:

Prof. Dr. Simon J. Evenett, Professor of International Trade and Economic Development, and for the past 5 years has also been Academic Director of the MBA, at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and coordinator of the independent trade policy watchdog Global Trade Alert.

Dr. Martin Schulz, Senior Economist at the Fujitsu Research Institute (FRI), a private think tank and consultancy that focuses on economic policy and corporate strategy in Japan.

This roundtable event is organized by OAV and GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies with kind support of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and will be held in English. The discussion will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Patrick Köllner, Vice President of the GIGA and Director of the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies.
