Business Opportunities in Cambodia: Organic Market

24. October 2022, Online

Cambodia is one of the most accessible frontier markets to foreign investors and offers an excellent business environment. Although its organic sector has experienced a rapid development in the past decade, it is still at a relatively small scale and has a lot of untapped market potential for sourcing, sales, and investments.

Cambodia is home to unique high-quality crops such as the world-famous Kampot Pepper, many of which have protected geographical indication (PGI) status. The most common EU organic certified crops include rice, pepper, cashew, herbs (e.g. ginger, lemongrass), as well as fruit and cassava, with Germany being one of the biggest importers of these products. At the same time, the country is a potential market for agricultural inputs including seeds and fertiliser, equipment, as well as machinery for planting, irrigation, harvesting, and agro-processing. For potential organic producers within Cambodia, the country also offers low land costs, low labour costs and faster transition to organic farming due to limited use of agrichemicals compared to its neighbours Thailand and Vietnam. The advantages of the Cambodian organic market will be highlighted and elaborated during the webinar.
